A. Wiring is how you add and share videos on and off of #waywire. There are two ways to do it – with a link from a source like YouTube or Vimeo, or upload your own video from your phone or computer.
A. Wiring a video is basically like posting a favorite for people to see and comment on. Click on the orange "wire a video" button next to the search bar at the top of the page and enter the URL of the video you want to wire. Remember, it has to be a video URL (like YouTube or Vimeo), not just a webpage with a video on it. Just grab the URL for that specific video, paste it in the Wire a New Video box, and click continue. From there, choose the appropriate categories and tags and edit the caption or title however you want.
A. A topic wire is a collection of videos organized around a specific topic or theme. It is simple to share (just click “share”) a topic wire to Twitter or Facebook. By clicking “play” you are able to play a single video or an entire topic wire.
A. Your video collection on #waywire is moveable. Simply unlock your collection (slide bar at the top of the page to the right) and drag a video preview image anywhere on your wire page. When the preview image in a desired location, lock your collection by sliding the top page bar to the left.
A. Through #waywire you are able to change the video preview image (thumbnail) by clicking on the edit icon in the upper right corner of the video preview image. Clicking on the edit icon will send you to an “edit your video” page, where you have the option of changing the video preview image or uploading your own photo or digital art.
A. If you find a video on waywire that you like, you can add it to your profile by "rewiring" it. Press the orange "W" below a video in order to rewire it.
A. We want you to wire on the go! Download our free, easy iPhone app to wire a video directly to the site. We’re working on an Android app too – stay tuned.
A. Wherever you see a user name (on a video or comment you like, for instance), you can click through to see that person’s profile and follow them. We also provide suggestions for who to follow at the top of the feed page, so you can build a feed that suits you.
A. The feed pulls in videos that have been wired by the people you’re following, as well as #waywire’s own favorite videos. Follow your friends or interesting people and organizations, and all their videos will appear here.
A. The videos here are chosen by our editors from the thousands of videos that are trending around #waywire. We select the most timely, interesting and must-see videos for this rotating section. They rotate over the course of the day.
A. The bigger videos are the ones that have been re-wired the most times. Since more people are watching them and they’ve been deemed important by our community, they appear larger than other videos.
A. In addition to a regular search, you can keep a regular search of topics that interest you by tag. On the lower right hand side of the homepage, under the video carousel, click "add tag." From there, you can see everything on the site with that tag. These tag searches will appear next to wiretap official, feed and trending, so you can quickly access the videos that matter most to you.
A. No. You retain the rights to your videos. Check out our full user agreement for more details.
A. Any valid video format should work for wiring, whether it’s posted on a video service like YouTube or a video file on another site. For uploading your own videos, you can see a list of acceptable formats here: wmv, avi, mov, moov, mpg, mpeg, m2t, m2v, vob, flv, mp4, mpg4, mkv, asf, m4v, m2p, 3gp, 3g2, f4v, mp3, m4a, wma, and aac.
A. Be sure to just wire the video, not the web page it might be on. For instance, if a video is embedded on a web page, the page itself won’t be wire-able. However, if you click the video and it opens in YouTube, or if there’s an embed code for the video, you can use that link. Our player will let you know if a URL is a valid video URL or not. Our list of supported players include: http://embed.ly/providers.
A. You can change your password in the Settings area. Click on the arrow by your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen and scroll to Settings. On the upper right of that page, click "change password" and follow the instructions on the screen.
A. The bookmarklet is an easy way to wire videos while you’re online. Drag it to the bookmarks tab in your browser, so you can access waywire all the time. When you see a video you want to wire, click the bookmarklet and the overlay will appear for you to wire.
